€460,000 bid but anthem not sold

Irish Independent

A SIGNED manuscript of the national anthem was withdrawn from auction last night.

It failed to reach its target price but attracted a top bid of €460,000.

There were audible gasps at the RDS when bidding for the lot started at €300,000.

It is expected it will be sold today after negotiations with the bidder.

Meanwhile Taoiseach Bertie Ahern yesterday called on the public to get onto the streets of Dublin next weekend to commemorate the 1916 Rising.
