The family of a Dublin man who was allegedly killed by an IRA member last year has met the US special envoy to the North and the US Ambassador to Ireland as part of their campaign for justice.

Joseph Rafferty, a 29-year-old father-of-one, was shot dead last April near his home on the Ongar housing estate in west Dublin.

His family claim he was killed by an IRA member as part of a feud with another family from the area and are demanding that Sinn Féin arrange for the killer to turn himself in.

The dead man's relatives are due to visit the US next month in an effort to put further pressure on the republican movement in connection with the case.

Speaking on their behalf this morning, local Fianna Fáil councillor Garry Keegan said today's meeting with US envoy Mitchell Reiss and US Ambassador James Kenny was very helpful in preparing for the trip.

"They have given us good advice on how to deal with the media over today, who to meet and what to emphasise with each of the people that we're meeting," he said.
